Laying down the beats

And lo, the long work of recording an album begins. As always, it begins and ends with the beat. Here’s a bit of Lloyd laying it down as only he can.

That’s a six mic configuration, kick / snare / tom / tom / over / h-hat.  It’s nice to actually take the time to do the songs in pieces because the pieces wind up sounding quite good without all the bleed. You wind up sacrificing a bit in the natural-ness of it all, but I don’t have a studio full of gobos and awesome mics, nor do I have the luxury of more than 8 channels.

Should be very interesting to see all the pieces coming together.
